Ketogenic Diet - A diet that works!
By Aaron Virdee
Have you been trying diet after diet, but not seeing any results?
Many diets only work with really daunting exercise, and having to give up all your
favourite foods. However, with a Ketogenic diet you only really have to worry
about avoiding those sugary and starchy foods, but as ‘Ketogenic Diet freak’
Gurdeep Mudhar says, “You can still enjoy a Keto Pizza, and pig out!”
A Ketogenic diet is a diet which has been practiced for more
than nine decades and is based on the understanding of physiology and nutrition
science. The main goal of a ketogenic diet is to consume more calories from protein
and fat than from carbs. The diet itself isn’t your everyday traditional diet
of counting calories, limiting portion sizes and resorting to extreme
exercises, this diet is out to change the very ‘fuel source’ that the body uses
to stay energised, by burning glucose for energy to dietary fat and critically
your own body fat to aid in weight loss.
Gurdeep, who has
gained over 1000 followers on Instagram just by posting his journey with the
Ketogenic Diet, says that the diet has helped him feel more energised, and more
mentally focused. “Whilst in ketosis, your brain uses ketones as a fuel source,
it has a consistent fuel source which means you can focus for longer periods of
time”.
When I asked Gurdeep about why he started to eat a Ketogenic
diet in the first place he explained that with his background being Indian,
there is more of a risk amongst Indians to develop diabetes, and also develop
heart problems and a Ketogenic diet can help combat that by reducing blood
pressure and help in weight loss.
So, what can you actually eat as part of a Ketogenic diet?
Well, Gurdeep went on to say that he enjoyed eating a
Ketogenic diet more than his regular diet, as he was still able to eat all the
meat that he wanted and was still able to enjoy dairy products such as Cheese,
and Butter, which made the diet as a whole less limiting than most weight loss
diets. “I felt less hungry at times where I would normally snack on a biscuit
or a packet of crisps”. He explained that a low carb diet allowed him to eat
less calories but feel more energised throughout the day. He explained that he managed to achieve his
weight loss goals with the help of exercise and would encourage anyone looking
to lose weight with a healthy diet, “A Ketogenic diet is the way forward”.
