Review: The Leamington Spa Vintage Kilo Sale

On Sunday 25^th March, The Vintage Kilo Sale held an event in Leamington Spa - THE END went down and experienced the event.

After seeing a number of advertisements online for The Vintage Kilo Sale happening in Leamington Spa, this event seemed a little too good to be true. Vintage clothes are usually so expensive, so the idea of being able to get a few items of clothing for £15 was an extremely appealing offer.

Held in the town hall, The Vintage Kilo Sale set up racks lining the edges of the room, covering all walls and surfaces with clothes, accessories, shoes and more.

The layout of the fair was simple, where each type of clothing was separated onto different rails to prevent it being a complete jumble sale. People swarmed to specific areas of the hall, pouring themselves over the vintage shell suit jackets and the shirts.

There were 3 entry times for customers: super earlybird access, earlybird access and general access. Each entry time started an hour after the one before and got gradually cheaper as the day went on.

Upon entry, it was obvious why there was the different price bands for the different entry times. THE END entered the event for ‘Earlybird Access’ where all that was hanging was rejected clothes left on the rails from the start of the day. It was quite obvious that all of the best items of clothing were put out at the beginning of the day, despite there being more clothing put out regularly by the staff.

Many of the articles of clothing were in large sizes which made it a struggle for smaller people to find something that fit them properly.

While, there were hundreds of items on offer, you could tell that all of these items were bought in bulk and weren’t individually selected as quite a number of them were plain and generic. If you went looking for unique pieces, this may not have necessarily been the place for you. Going to a vintage shop would be more productive and fruitful for the avid vintage buyer.

To make the most of this event, it is important to get there early to get the best pick of the clothing available. Also if you’re careful with your clothing choices, you can get a lot of articles of clothing for your money.
